Meet the Team
IDEAL was founded by Paul Swanson and Ian Dunn with the aim of bringing high
quality postgraduate dental education to the North West and beyond.
Paul Swanson
CO-DIRECTOR
As well as being the Clinical Director at IDEAL, Paul is the Clinical Director and Owner of Rose Lane Dental Practice that incorporates the Liverpool Dental Specialist Centre.
Paul holds the Royal College (England) Diploma in Implant Dentistry and MSc (Implantology) from Queen Mary University of London and is a very experienced implant dentist and educator.
Paul is involved in post-graduate teaching both at Liverpool University Dental Hospital and nationally. He provides one-one surgical implant training for the post grads at Liverpool .
He has lectured at most of the UK’s major dental implant events including the ADI and ITI.
Paul works within his own team at Rose Lane on complex multidisciplinary cases and also works as a visiting surgeon at two high profile specialist referral practices in the NorthWest of England. He also routinely accepts referrals from other implant dentists for their more complex cases.
He is passionate about teaching and passing on skills and knowledge to the profession.

Ian Dunn
CO-DIRECTOR
Ian is a Specialist Periodontist and Former Senior Clinical Teacher at Liverpool University. He was Undergraduate Teaching Lead at Liverpool from 2013 to 2018 and was responsible for developing the undergraduate course together with training some of the Specialist of the future.
Ian is also heavily involved in post-graduate teaching on a national level. Ian is the Perio Lead for the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners and teaches on their Restorative and Aesthetic Diploma. Ian also runs private courses all over the UK and has done for over 10 years.
Ian has lectured at most of the UK’s major dental events including the British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, the British Dental Association Conference, the British Society of Restorative Dentistry conference, the British Society of Dental Radiologists, the British Society of Dental Hygienist and Therapists national meeting and the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Ian serves on the Council of the British Society of Periodontology as their Commercial Liaison Officer and was elected to their lecturing Faculty 4 years ago.
To complement his academic interests, Ian also has a busy Periodontal referral network and sees patients for all aspects of periodontal and peri-implant disease. Ian is also known for his aesthetic periodontal surgery techniques, enhancing smiles through soft tissue grafting and crown lengthening.
He is passionate about teaching and passing on skills and knowledge to the profession.

Emma Hulley
REFERRAL MANAGER AND IDEAL COORDINATOR
As well as managing the day to day running of IDEAL, Emma is the referral coordinator for Rose Lane Dental Practice and the Liverpool Dental Specialists.
Emma will be your primary contact when you book on to an IDEAL dental course. She will also help you ensure you have a great experience on our courses. Aside from preparing all the educational material she can help in arranging transport accommodation and any dietary requirements.
